Those who live in the Warsaw and Winona Lake area often will tell you how charming the small towns are.
HGTV listed the 50 most charming small towns in America, and included Warsaw. Of course, that got shared all over social media - including Facebook this past weekend - after it got a mention by Travis Sams on WKDQ 99.5’s website Thursday. WKDQ is a country music formatted radio station in the Henderson, Ky., radio market, broadcasting to Evansville.
On the radio station’s website, Sams wrote, in part, “Indiana is full of a lot of great small towns. As someone who is from a small town in Indiana, I am proud of where I come from. Boonville, Indiana, is a great place to raise a family and to call home.”
He wrote that after HGTV recently listed the 50 most charming small towns in America, he was naturally curious about Indiana. (The list doesn’t have a publication date, or when and how it was complied, but it was written by Lynn Coulter, an Atlanta-based freelance writer.)
“I thought I knew what town they would pick, but I couldn’t have been more wrong,” Sams said.
According to the HGTV website posting, the most charming small town in Indiana is Warsaw.
“If I am being honest, I was expecting Nashville to be the town that they picked, but after doing some digging, I can totally see why they chose Warsaw,” Sams wrote.
What HGTV wrote about Warsaw seems to be more about the town of Winona Lake, though the two municipalities have been joined at the hip for a long time.
“Spend a day relaxing by beautiful Winona Lake in Warsaw, Indiana, and leave time to wander through the beautiful, historic Village at Winona. Once a summer retreat, this northern Indiana destination is now a shopping mecca and a venue for concerts, performances and festivals. The Village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places,” according to HGTV.
Sams’ WKDG post then offers a link to the city of Warsaw website. The original HGTV website post offers not only a link to Warsaw’s website but also a link to The Village at Winona.
Whether HGTV meant Winona Lake, Warsaw, or both, most residents of both Kosciusko County towns will likely tell you a similar thing: They both have their charms.
