Herschel Paul Shoemaker, 92, of 3426 W. CR 200S, Warsaw, died at 10:40 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009, in Warsaw.
He was born Aug. 1, 1916, in Mentone, to Riley and Elsie Kuhn Shoemaker. On Nov. 28, 1946, he married Joan Eherenman, who died May 14, 1994.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he farmed and was a tool and die maker for Acme Engineering, Othy Inc. and B&M Instruments, all in Warsaw, and Bendix Corp., South Bend. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as a medic with the 101st Airborne. He was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw; Masonic Temple Warsaw Lodge 73, F&AM; Fort Wayne Scottish Rite; and Mizpah Shrine.
Surviving are two daughters, Martha Whetstone, and Marvene (and spouse Steve) Johnson, all of Warsaw; three grandchildren: Gabriel Whetstone, Warsaw; Courtney Burchett, Portage; and Amy Johnson, Decatur; three great-grandchildren, Brett and Teddy Burchett, both of Portage, and Taryn Whetstone, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Gordon and Gladys Shoemaker.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Jerry Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both in Warsaw.
Calling is from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a Masonic service by members of Masonic Temple Warsaw Lodge 73, F&AM.
