LA PORTE – Helen Clara Craft, 90, of La Porte, died Aug. 29, 2012, at IU Health, La Porte.
She was born May 16, 1922, to Gust and Clara Helen Hummel Diesslin.
She grew up on the home farm and graduated from La Porte High School in 1940. On Sept. 27, 1941, in her parent’s residence, she married Gordon Hall Craft, who died Oct. 9, 2009.
She lived in La Porte County her entire life and was an active member of Kingsbury Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a homemaker, a member of the Purdue Extension Kitchen Kin Home Economics Club and a 4-H Club leader. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed tole painting, needle crafts and antiquing. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a 4-H Junior Leader, she met Gordon.
This union of 68 years brought into this world: Jim (and spouse Laraine) Craft and Charlie (and spouse Patti) Craft, all of La Porte; Peggy (and spouse Willis) Alt, Warsaw; Tom Craft (and Jame Solner), Michigan City; and Jane (and spouse Jeff) York, Downers Grove, Ill.; a brother, Paul (and spouse Joy) Diesslin, Crawfordsville; sisters, Mary Ann Ross, Crown Point, and Louise (and spouse Glen) Burchby, West Lafayette; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard G. and Micki Diesslin; and brother-in-law, Harold Ross.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Kingsbury with the Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Burial will be in Kingsbury Cemetery.
