SYRACUSE - Harry J. Lemberg Jr., 84, of Syracuse, died at 12:49 p.m. Sept. 1, 2009, in St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Feb. 12, 1925, to Harry J. and Leanor Logdson Lemberg Sr. On July 7, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., he married Janet M. Hutchinson, who died in 1996.
He graduated from Ignatius High School, Chicago, Ill., in 1943. He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Northwestern University in 1946. He was a US Naval officer and served in World War II.
He was formerly a self-employed textile consultant for many years and moved to Syracuse from Chicago in 1971. He was a member of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Parish, Syracuse; Champagne Club, Chicago; American Legion Post 223, Syracuse; and a life member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Chicago.
Surviving are six sons: Richard (and spouse Cathy) Lemberg and Dennis Lemberg, all of Syracuse; Charles (and spouse Cindy) Lemberg, Cromwell; Harry (and spouse Patty) Lemberg III, Columbus, Ohio; James (and spouse Georgia) Lemberg and Brian (and spouse Laurie) Lemberg, all of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gilmary Lemberg SSND, Notre Dame. He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson and a sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Parish, Syracuse, with Father Richard Hire officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of American Legion Post 223.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with a rosary service at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
