NAPPANEE – Harley D. Miller, 85, of 501 W. Randolph St., Nappanee, died at 2:05 a.m. July 10, 2011, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, where he lived since June 28.
He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Bremen, to David and Barbara Hochstetler Miller. On May 31, 1951, in LaGrange, he married Mary Lambright, who died Sept. 19, 2008.
A lifetime area resident, he and his wife owned Miller’s Orchard, Nappanee, since 1958. They were instrumental in organizing the first Apple Festival in Nappanee and served as grand marshalls in the Apple Festival Parade. He was a member of North Liberty Mennonite Church.
Surviving are three sons, Nelson (and spouse Cynthia) Miller and Maynard (and spouse Tammy) Miller, all of Nappanee, and Lyle (and spouse Lori) Miller, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Marilyn (and spouse LeRoy) Knepp, Goshen; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters: Leona (and spouse Harvey) Miller, Linda Mae Miller, Clara (and spouse Lamar) Hershberger and Verba (and spouse Lonnie) Slabaugh, all of Nappanee; and three brothers, Sylvanis (and spouse Mary) Miller and Homer (and spouse Frieda) Miller, all of Nappanee, and Lester (and spouse Mary Esther) Miller, Middlebury. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, two brothers and an infant sister.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bethel Conservative Mennonite Church with Gilbert Miller Jr., Ray Stutzman and Noah Knepp officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Conservative Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
