Gregory ‘Greg’ Earl EvansGregory “Greg” Earl Evans, of Warsaw, passed away at 9:59 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Fort Wayne, at the age of 69.
He was born on July 21, 1952, in Warsaw, to Earl Leroy Evans and Betty J. Galbreath Evans. Greg was a 1972 graduate of Whitko High School in South Whitley. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 1972, and proudly served until his honorable discharge on Sept. 10, 1974.
Greg lived most of his life in Kosciusko County and worked at RR Donnelley and Sons (now LSC Communications) in Warsaw for over 50 years. Working in a factory is hard work and he loved it. At the time of his passing, he was still working as a hoistman. He always had a good attitude toward his work ethic; he was reliable, punctual, worked well with others and paid attention to detail. Greg was a hard worker and could always be counted on to show up. He hated taking time off from work except one time he took off for 11 days to go on a cruise … and he earned and deserved that experience of a lifetime. Everyone who knew Greg would describe him as frugal; Greg was not wasteful and knew how to be a good steward with his earnings. He loved all kinds of sports but very much enjoyed watching IU basketball. Most of all he loved his family and adored his grandchildren. Greg was one of a kind and will be forever loved and missed by his family and by those fortunate enough to have known him.
On Aug. 19, 2011, he was married to Lana Kay Leek O’Connell Evans, who survives in Warsaw. He leaves behind his son, Patrick (Julie) O’Connell, Mentone; two daughters: Jillian (Daniel) Allis, Fort Wayne; and April (Frank) Vaccaro, Mishawaka. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Alaina (Tanner) Neeley; Lexi (Jacob) Lisenby; Patrick O’Connell; Leona, Landen and Jackson Zwick; Anthony, Joseph, Nicholas and Karina Vaccaro; brother, Michael (Carole) Evans, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters: Rebecca Huff, Fort Myers, Fla.; and ReNae Feldman, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty, in 2000; and his father, Earl, in 2018.
Greg’s life will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Envoy Ken Locke of the Salvation Army. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126, both of Warsaw, and active-duty members of the Army Honor Guard.
