WINONA LAKE –  Grace College’s track and field team hosted its third annual Lancer Invitational on Saturday, a meet that featured almost 500 athletes.

Despite heavy rains and chilly temperatures, the Lancers still posted a number of strong performances at the Bernard and Linnie Key Track and Field Complex.

Dylan Felger hit the NAIA standard in the 400-meter hurdles and set a school record. He crossed the finish line in 54.33 seconds to win the race.

Walker Hobbs won the shot put with a season-best mark of 49-feet-0.75, and Thomas Hickerson was first in the javelin with a throw of 167 feet.

Martin Schiele sprinted his way to the 200-meter race crown, posting a time of 22.48, and the men’s 4x400 relay team of Brady Willard, Schiele, Jonathan Balda and Kyle Smith was also first at 3:28.54.

Paul Brawner was runner-up twice, including the 100 dash (11.31) and the 200 (22.94). Korry Hamlin was second in the 1,500 with a PR of 4:02.36, and Isaac Brown finished second in the high jump by clearing 6-feet-6.25.

In the men’s 800, Smith finished second (1:56.61) and Balda was fourth (1:57.89). Victor Hughes finished fourth in the triple jump.

Nordia Campbell picked up a third-place showing in the 100 (13.00) and a fourth place in the 200 (28.08), and she joined Julia Malson, Alexis Williams and Suzanne Sickafoose for third in the 4x100 relay.

Kaitlyn Mack finished fifth in the 400 hurdles, Makenzie Adams was seventh in the 800, and Jessica Zvers was eighth in the 1,500.

On the throwing side, Caleb Brown was busy. He finished fifth in the discus, sixth in the hammer and seventh in the shot put. William Shafer placed fifth in the hammer and sixth in the discus, and Brooke Treadway finished seventh in the women’s discus.

“I'm proud of the way we handled the cold, rainy weather and still put together some good performances. A big congratulations to Dylan Felger, who ran a great race despite the conditions. He can certainly run much faster in the coming weeks,” said Grace head coach Jeff Raymond. “We look forward to competing at the Crossroads League Championships next week as we know it's a very competitive league and will push us to even better performances.”

The Lancers will climax their season next week with the Crossroads League Championships on Thursday and Friday at Indiana Wesleyan.
