Governor Accepting Applications For JudgeThe office of Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb began accepting applications Dec. 17 to fill the vacancy in Kosciusko Superior Court I after the unexpected death of Judge David Cates.
Rachel Hoffmeyer, press secretary for the governor, said the job posting is available on the governor’s website under judicial appointments and applications are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 19.
Hoffmeyer said the process of filling the vacancy takes about 75 days from the day the position is posted, which would make it sometime in early March when Kosciusko County can expect to have a new six-year term judge in Superior I.
Hoffmeyer said applicants can list three professional and three personal references and that an interview process will take place after the posting closes. Holcomb will then make his pick.
Cates died Dec. 9 in his Syracuse home from a heart attack. He had just been re-elected to the bench for his second six-year term.
Superior Court I handles the county’s highest felonies, including murder, crimes against children and juvenile matters.
