It is becoming more evident to me that our current democratic leaders in government from the president on down to the Congress and beyond are desirous of creating a society dependent on the government. Americans, wake up, this is not freedom, this is not independence. It is our government tightening the chains around individuals and small businesses.
Our president is swindling the American people to become dependent on the government by accusing conservatives of having no heart - that if someone loses their job - too bad, they are on their own. He is trying to convince the American people that conservatives are shutting out the middle class by saying we don't care about you and your situation. No, no, no Mr. President. Conservatives are not saying that at all. We care and we want the people to have the money and opportunity to be able to help their friends and neighbors so that their friends and neighbors don't have to rely on the government. If the president wants to talk about people who don't have a heart he needs to address the whole of Congress. I worked at the Capitol in D.C. There are many homeless people living on the sidewalks immediately outside of the Capitol and the White House. Is this the compassionate answer - to just hand these people money from the government and send them to a poor house which most government housing projects become? No, this is not having a heart. This is just like the parent who spoils their child and gives them whatever they want without requiring they work for it. This child will almost certainly end up in the poor house economically and/or emotionally. This way ends up leading to despair.
While our members of Congress and the president are sitting in their high and lofty seats mandating that we help the poor by taxing the rich, the homeless people of our nation's capitol are sitting on the streets right under the noses of these wealthy men and women who are guaranteed healthcare and pension for the rest of their lives. I think our president and the Congress could afford to close down the government for at least a few days (it was never meant to be an around-the-clock, around-the-year job anyway) and go onto the streets and lead these homeless families/individuals to church and privately run homeless shelters, drug recovery centers and job centers. Instead they are sitting in their high and lofty seats making regulations for how these shelters should be run. I would like to see (without cameras present) the president and members of Congress get their hands dirty washing dishes and sit on a cot with a homeless person. This is the kind of heart that the conservative American has - to give a hand up to the poor and needy and encourage them out of the vicious cycle of poverty and unemployment.
Allow me to reiterate the fact that creating a society of dependents is not independence. It is bondage and will lead to despair.
