A Goshen woman was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail after her car rear-ended an animal-drawn vehicle Friday night, causing injury to five people.
Jakaila Miracle, 24, Goshen, was booked into the jail at 7:25 p.m. Friday on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in serious bodily injury; leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, battery by body waste and disorderly conduct. Her preliminary bond was set at $20,000.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office crash report, at about 7:06 p.m. Friday, May 29 in Scott Township, Miracle was driving a black 2015 Ford Fusion south on Ind. 19 in the area of West CR 1050N when the Fusion hit the animal-drawn vehicle in the left rear corner area, causing the animal-drawn vehicle to go off the roadway. The Fusion continued on and was found at North CR 350W and U.S. 30.
Melvin Miller was driving the animal-drawn vehicle and was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for further medical attention.
Mabel Miller, 43, Nappanee, complained of pain to the face and was taken to Memorial Hospital for further medical attention.
Lori Miller, 41, Nappanee, was ejected from the animal-drawn vehicle and complained of pain to the head and was taken to Memorial Hospital for further medical attention.
Karilyn Miller, 15, Nappanee, was ejected and complained of pain to the knee, lower leg and foot and was taken to Memorial Hospital.
Alivia Schwartz, an infant, Etna Green, was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by Medflight for further medical attention. Injuries were listed as unknown in the report, but the child was in a child restraint.
The Ford Fusion was towed by Reichert’s Towing due to an operating while intoxicated investigation and damage.
A witness stated he was traveling north on Ind. 19 from West CR 900N when he saw the Fusion traveling south with front-end damage and was visually traveling fast.
The KCSO crash report states Miracle was being investigated for operating a motor vehicle causing serious bodily injury.
Damage estimate was at least $5,000 to $10,000, the report indicates.
