LAPORTE - Gordon Craft, 91, LaPorte, died Oct. 9, 2009, in LaPorte Hospital.

He was born July 19, 1918, in Kingsbury, to John A. and May Canfield Craft. On Sept. 27, 1941, he married Helen C. Diesslin, and they were married 68 years. She preceded him in death.

He lived in LaPorte County his entire life and started his farming career using horses as a source of power, and as recently as two years ago he was still operating a combine. He was a dairy and grain farmer and a former director of LaPorte County Farm Bureau Co-Op. He was a life-long member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, Kingsbury. He grew up on the home farm and graduated from Kingsbury High School in 1936. He was a 4-H Junior Leader, where he met his wife.

Surviving are his children: Jim (and spouse Laraine) Craft; Charlie (and spouse Patti) Craft, LaPorte; Peggy (and spouse Willis) Alt, Warsaw; Tom (and spouse Jame Solner) Craft, Michigan City; Jane (and spouse Jeff) York, Downers Grove, Ill; a brother, William W. (and spouse Dorathy) Craft, Monticello; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward O. Craft.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Kingsbury, with the Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsbury Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cutler Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
