GOP Bad, Demos Good

Editor, Times-Union:

It's so nice to hear from Mrs. Torpy on her views of my letters.

First, the last time I checked we were in a recession under Republican policy (fact). Thirty percent approval rating (fact).

I don't listen to the Rush, Hannity or the Spongebob Glenn Beck. Nor will I be a part of their multi-million dollar paychecks.

First, when Clinton won the White House, the federal budget deficit was at a historic high of $290 billion (fact), 10 million Americans were out of work and the nation's economic growth rate under the outgoing Republican administration was the lowest in more than half a century. (fact) Clinton introduced his controversial economic plan that raised the income taxes of the richest 1.4 percent of Americans. We immediately heard from the gloom-and-doom congressional Republicans, every one of whom voted against the Clinton plan.

What followed is unarguable: creation of more than 22 million new jobs (fact); the nation's lowest unemployment rate in 30 years (fact); the lowest unemployment rate among women in 40 years (fact); and the lowest Hispanic and African-American unemployment rate in history (fact). The nation went from the largest budget deficits in history to the largest budget surpluses in history (fact), while the average family's income went up more than $5,000. (fact)

Thinking Clinton was responsible for the fall of the housing crisis is ludicrous. Where's the facts on this? I would love to see it.

Progress under George Bush deregulated the market so Wall Street can resell the repacked dead horse to the next sucker thought they were buying steak. They broke them up and resold them, Mrs Torpy.

Republican and teabag organizer Dick Armey complained on "Meet the Press" that too many lower-income wage-earners were taken off the tax rolls, and that they ought to be paying higher taxes. He went on to say, and to gesture with his hands so it was clear what he meant, that that would enable us to lower taxes on the top bracket.

Although the people in the streets may not have known it - and almost everyone in the streets just had their taxes lowered, so they could not have known much about the subject - that is what those stirring the pot were really after.

Eight years of promoting shopping and the goal to have a beer with their leader is the level of intellect was where our country had been.

Will they still be having tea parties when they finally hear the cruel truth of how they are being manipulated by the rich for the benefit of the rich and the continued victimization of the poor?

This group messed up our lives enough.

Reagan: Who can ever forget his love of poor children as he attempted to classify ketchup as a vegetable for the School Lunch Program. (fact)

If the Repubs' only response is to call liberals socialist, I guess it's better than being greedy and kicking people when they are down.

On healthcare. 70 percent want it. For the people and by the people.

I say let them have cake.
