SOUTH WHITLEY - Glee Irene Eberly, 80, of South Whitley, died June 9, 2010, at Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
She was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Medaryville, to Walter and Velda M. Putman Penrod. On Aug. 15, 1948, she married Lee O. Eberly, who survives.
She had a summer home at Kuhn Lake. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1947. She began her work career at Farmer's Elevator, South Whitley, and was a seasonal employee at Wolf and Dessauer, Fort Wayne. In 1962, she and her husband started Whitley Mobile Homes, a well-known dealer and transporter of mobile homes and developer, owner of mobile home parks. She spent 12 years on the South Whitley Town Council and 18 years on the Whitley County Planning Commission.
Her memberships included: United Methodist Church, South Whitley, where she served as organist and pianist for more than 40 years; Delta Theta Tau Sorority for more than 50 years; Helping Hands Class; Indiana Manufactured Housing Association; Whitley County Crime Stoppers; Whitley County EMS; and she was a leader for Girl Scouts and Cubs Scouts.
Also surviving are three sons, Daryl (and spouse Carolyn) Eberly, Jeryl (and spouse Tammy) Eberly and Terry (and spouse Jill) Eberly, all of South Whitley; two daughters, Carol Eberly and Laurell (and spouse Mark) Hodges, all of South Whitley; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Nila Richards. She was preceded in death by three half sisters and a half brother.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, South Whitley.
