Gertrude Mae Webb Alt, 93, of Kouts, went to join her husband, Willis Alt, in heaven on June 24, 2017.
She was born in Knox, on Dec. 6, 1923, to Charles and Evaline Webb. She and Willis were married on Feb. 14, 1942.
Known by friends as "Gertie," she and Willis raised their family on a grain and livestock farm. They strongly encouraged their children to continue their education and all graduated with college degrees.
Gertie and Willis joined the La Crosse United Methodist Church in 1949. She served the church as a Sunday School teacher, Summer Bible School teacher, pianist, organist and Methodist Women's Society leader in the church conference.
Gertie will be sorely missed by her children, Willis Jr. (Peggy) Alt, Warsaw; James (Alice) Alt, Waterford, Mich.; Barbara (Bob) Claypool, Valparaiso; and Evelyn (Todd) Ames, Kouts. Her 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren will always be in her heart in heaven and she in theirs.
Gertie is survived by her sister, Hazel (Ralph, deceased) Hamlett. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979, her parents, and her siblings, Mary (Harry) Schwartz and Charles (Delores) Webb, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Kosanke Funeral Home, Kouts. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at LaCrosse United Methodist Church, burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
