NORTH MANCHESTER – Gerald R. Seifert, 82, of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, and formerly of Highland, died at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 1, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born July 25, 1929, in East Chicago, to William and Jeanette Klugkist Seifert. On Nov. 20, 1954, he married Theresa S. Sammon, who died April 25, 2006.
He was an engineer at Inland Steel, East Chicago, for 40 years, retiring April 25, 2006. He served in the U.S. rmy from 1952-55. He was a member of St. Robert’s Catholic Church, North Manchester, and a former member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Munster. He graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School in 1947 and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering a master’s degree in general engineering, both from Purdue. He was the patentee on many patents relating to the steel industry. He was an officer in the Holy Name Society, active member of the Purdue University Alumni and a member of the Dinosaur Golf Association.
Surviving are a son, Matthew (and spouse Tammy) Seifert, North Manchester; two daughters, Kate (and spouse Jeff) Benedict, Ellicott City, Md., and Tricia Seifert (and Chuck Hummel), DeSoto, Texas; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Robert’s Catholic Church, North Manchester, with Father Thomas Kodakassery officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Scherville.
