George P. Garber Jr., 82, of North Manchester, died at 1:15 a.m. May 3, 2013, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
He was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Warsaw, to George Paul and Mabel Long Garber Sr. He married Bonnie Paxton in 1967, who preceded him in death in 1994.
He moved to North Manchester in 1959, where he worked for Eaton Controls, where he retired in 1992. He also was a member of Saint Roberts Church, North Manchester. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953 and then served in the Indiana National Guard.
Surviving are one stepdaughter, Sandra K. Kline, North Manchester; a daughter, Sally Jo Berget, Florida; a brother, Dave (and spouse Carol) Garber, Warsaw; two sisters, Ruby Jo (and spouse Larry) Clark, Warsaw, and Virginia Schue, Warsaw; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, George Paul Garber III; two brothers; and five sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Mike Hontz officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by the American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
