George Hopkins Jr., 81, Claypool, passed away at 7:15 a.m. March 21, 2015, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. He was born March 23, 1933, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to George Franklin and Pearl Risner Hopkins. On Aug. 8, 1959, he married Madeline Shepherd Hopkins, with whom he had three children, who survives. On May 18, 1993, he married Beverly Konkle, who preceded him in death March 3, 2012. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, where he was a member of the American Legions and VFW posts of North Manchester and Warsaw. He was also a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge #1423. He had served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 8th Armored Division. He received several battle citations, and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a truck driver for many years, and then worked at R.R. Donnelley and Sons of Warsaw, retiring in 2000. He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Anthony D. and Kevin D. Hopkins, both of Claypool; a daughter, LaDonna (and spouse Larry) Bloom, Warsaw; nine grandchildren: Mandy R., Adam L. (and spouse Amanda), Katelin R. and Miriah Hopkins; Jessica R. Dilley; and Karri A., Joshua W., Jacob T. and Jared C. Bloom; and seven great-grandchildren: Mason A. Sullivan; Joselyn, McKinna, Trey and Matthew Dilley; and Trevor Stidhams. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Lewis Shepherd officiating. Graveside services will follow at Lake View Cemetery, Silver Lake, with military honors by American Legion Post #49, VFW #1126, both of Warsaw, and the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard.
