Geneva Mary Newhart Stewart

FRANKFORT – Geneva Mary Newhart Stewart, 93, Frankfort, died peacefully in her home at 1:14 p.m. May 9, 2016. Our dear mother is finally at peace with Jesus and she is again dancing with the love of her life.
She was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Buck Creek, to Thomas Ivory and Myrtle Ivy Robey Newhart. She was the seventh of nine children: William, Walter, Dorothy, James, Dale, Melvin, Thomas and Betty.
While attending Little Jeff High School, she met the man of her dreams, Harold E. Stewart, on a blind date. On her birthday, Sept. 20, 1939, in the First Christian Church by the Rev. Farr, she married Harold E. Stewart, who preceded her in death Feb. 20, 2005. Her children were truly blessed to have been the result of this perfect union.
Our mother was a woman like no other. Anyone who knew her knew what a remarkable woman she was.  She was a tough task master but would bend over backward to help anyone. She loved her husband and family more than anything in the world and devoted her life to us, her home and her yard. She was not only a great household executive, but she worked side by side with Daddy at the furniture markets and as an interior design specialist at Stewart’s Furniture. She was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years, a Cub Scout den mother for five years, a member of the Order of Eastern Star Clinton Chapter 6 for 55 years, and a member of the First Christian Church for well over 50 years where she participated in the Ladies’ Concern Group. She was also a member of Zonta professional women’s group.
Surviving are four children: Harold Milton (and spouse Kathleen) Stewart, Indianapolis; Sharon Kay Davis (and spouse Jim) Stahly, Warsaw; Cheryl Lynn (and spouse Frank) Lushe, Arlington, Va.; Tara (and spouse Allen) Evans, Frankfort; a sister, Betty Haggard, Lake Mary, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Alex, Nicky, Duane, Greg, Jennifer, Dale, Stephen, Stephanie, Michael, Shelly and Jason; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Her parents and all of her siblings, except Betty, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Jill Carroll officiating. The ladies of the Order of Eastern Star Clinton Chapter 6 will begin the service. Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery.
Calling is from noon until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
