Posted

A Fulton County couple with connections to this area died this week from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Maurice Lewis, 65, and his wife, Barbara Sue Lewis, 71, were found deceased in their Rochester home between 11 a.m. and noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, according to Fulton County Chief Deputy Jeri D. Good.
She said the couple probably were not aware of the carbon monoxide in their home, which emitted from the HVAC system.
A family member went to check on them at their home and found them deceased Tuesday.
Good said the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.
Assisting the coroner’s office were the Rochester City Police Department, Parkview EMS, Rochester Fire and Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
Carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that can kill without warning. The Center for Disease Control states the most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, vomiting, chest pain, confusion and upset stomach. The gas is found in fumes produced when a person burns fuel in vehicles, stoves, lanterns, grills, gas ranges, fireplaces or furnaces.
