Francis L. 'Whitey' Thompson

AKRON - Francis L. "Whitey" Thompson, 86, of 802 E. Walnut St., Akron, died at 8:30 p.m. July 4, 2008, in Life Care Center of Rochester. He was in failing health for three years.

He was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Fulton County, to Clarence and Marie Richter Thompson. On April 18, 1942, in Rochester, he married Kathryn "Kate" A. Fitzpatrick, who died Dec. 12, 2004,

He was a farmer, a janitor at the former Akron High School, hauled livestock and worked as a gas delivery man at Franger Gas. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He always kept a beautiful yard. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and St Louis Cardinals and followed I.U. basketball.

Surviving are three sons: Denny (and spouse Phyllis) Thompson, and Ronnie Thompson, all of Akron, and Robert Thompson, Wabash; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, D. Louise Eaton, and a granddaughter, Jessica Thompson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
