STURGIS, Mich. - Frances Irene James, 76, of Sturgis, Mich., died Oct. 23, 2008, in Sturgis Hospital.
She was born Aug. 5, 1932, in Syracuse, to Irwin James and Erma Irene Nicolai Byland. On May 24, 1951, in Syracuse, she married Robert James, who survives.
She moved to Sturgis from LaGrange in 1961. She co-owned and operated the Economy Market and Ice Co., Sturgis, for many years, and was a homemaker. She graduated from Syracuse High School in 1950.
Also surviving are two daughters, Irene (and spouse Dan) Dumont, Bronson, and Lou Ann (and spouse Michael) Cox, Sturgis; two sons, Bill (and spouse Edie) James, Sturgis, and Steve James, LaGrange; seven grandchildren: Tracie Syring, Sheri Hills, Holly Gentz, Jessica and Damon James and Jason and James Knapp; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Blankenhorn, Mishawaka, and Norma Crafton, Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hackman Family Funeral Home, Sturgis, Mich., with the Rev. James Bender officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Sturgis.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
