Fourth Annual Trick-Or-Treat On The Trails Held Saturday

WINONA LAKE – Ghouls, goblins and scarecrows were among the Halloween creatures that paraded up and down the trails during Trick-or-Treat on the Trails Saturday.
The event in Winona Lake was the fourth year Trick-or-Treat on the Trails has taken place, said Holly Hummitch, park and senior center director.
“We started a few years back because I wanted a community event that would involve the greenway and trails as well and it was just an extention of the park system,” she said, noting all the town departments were able to get involved. “It’s become a town event. It’s amazing.”
Hummitch roughly estimated between 1,000 and 1,500 people attended the event, if not more, “but it’s been steady all day.”
She said the draw to Saturday’s event was probably because it was another fun, free event “and that’s what we always want to strive for. It’s a beautiful place, you gotta enjoy this beautiful town and everything it has to offer.”
Area businesses and organizations passed out candy to children from 3-5 p.m. on the trails.
From 5 to 7 p.m., a bonfire was built at Limitless Park and people could make s’mores and play games.
Hummitch said dancers from Deb Collier’s School of Dance were to do a flash mob to “Thriller,” which “is really exciting.” The movie “It’s a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” was also shown.
