Former Officer Charged After Tryst With Detainee

A former Kosciusko  County Community Corrections officer is facing charges after police allege he removed an ankle bracelet for a detainee and took her to Valparaiso for a weekend.

Patrick Olson, 24, of 207?Western Drive, Winona Lake,  is charged with felony charges of sexual misconduct by a service provider and aiding, or inducing or causing escape, according to information provided by the county prosector’s office.

Olson is accused of having sex with the woman. Indiana law prohibits officers from having sex with detainees.

A warrant was issued today for Olson’s arrest.  As of this morning, he had not been arrested.

Police allege Olson, who was a home detention officer, removed the ankle bracelet of a female detainee and took her to Valparaiso at the end of September and beginning of October.

According to court documents, Olson told community corrections director Anna Bailey he had “feelings” for the detainee.

Bailey told Olson not to have any more contact with the girl, court records state.

Police say allegations against Olson happened after he was warned.

Olson was fired from his position on Oct. 4.

Police spoke with the woman, who said Olson was  her case manager and their relationship grew.

She told police that she had sex with Olson while in a hotel room in Valparaiso.

The woman then tried to end the relationship and applied for a restraining order against Olson, but was denied by Kosciusko?County Superior Court Judge III Joe Sutton.

The woman claimed Olson continued to contact her even though she had told him not to.

She claimed Olson had set up fake Snapchat accounts to  continue to follow her after she had blocked him.

She submitted a letter to the court in which Olson declared his love for her.

In the letter, Olson said he wouldn’t change anything, “Not even the trip Valpo.”

Due to all Kosciusko County judges serving on the Community Corrections board, Marshall County Superior Court I Judge Robert Bowen has been appointed to preside over the case, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County prosecutor’s office.

Prosecutor Dan Hampton, who also sits on the board, has filed a petition seeking a special prosecutor for the case.
