A former local teacher and Warsaw athletic director, Gene Butts, 94, of Warsaw, was killed in a two-vehicle collision this morning.
The fatal injury accident occurred at the intersection of Ind. 15 and CR 200S in Wayne Township, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
KCSO deputies and emergency personnel responded today at 10:45 a.m. to the accident. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a Nissan pickup truck and a Freightliner box truck involved in the accident. Preliminary investigation determined the pickup truck was traveling north on Ind. 15 and the box truck was westbound on CR 200S. The vehicles collided in the intersection.
Butts was the driver of the Nissan and was pronounced dead at the scene by Kosciusko County Coroner Tyler Huffer from injuries suffered in the crash.
Brittany E. Simons, 35, Rochester, was the driver of the Freightliner and was not injured in the crash. Two passengers in her vehicle, Stewart Hoover, 59, Warsaw, and Talan Asay, 19, Warsaw, were also not injured in the crash.
Assisting at the scene was the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Lutheran EMS, Reichert & Knepp Wrecker Service, Indiana State Police, Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch Center and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
The accident remains under investigation by the KCSO FACT.
