Former Gateway School Sustains Minimal Smoke Damage SundayA report of smoke at the former Warsaw Community Schools Gateway School Sunday night resulted in $1,000 in damage.
Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory got called to the school at 201 N. Union St., Warsaw, at 7:53 p.m. Sunday after a report of smoke coming from the building.
Firefighters discovered a large amount of smoke in the building from what appeared to be as a result of a malfunction in the HVAC system, WWFT Public Information Officer Max Kinsey said.
The department’s new Titus fan was used to clear the smoke, Kinsey said, and any flames that were present were put out with a watering can. The scene was clear within two hours.
Estimated damage is $1,000. WWFT was assisted at the scene by Winona Lake and Leesburg fire departments and the Warsaw Police Department.
In July, WCS announced it was selling the property to a property developer, County Commissioner Cary Groninger, for $100,000.
