I hope everyone had the opportunity to see Tuesday's Times-Union front-page story detailing the critical need of food for our area food banks. They are desperate, as are the many people who rely on them to help get through this economic crises in our country, but more specifically here at home.
It breaks your heart to hear stories of families with children coming for help, but no food exists for them to take home. How can we not care about the people in our community? Friends, family, neighbors are all in this situation, and we must come together and help when help is needed most.
I certainly understand that not everyone is in a position to help, but for those of us who are, we must act now and help these people, especially the children. Please, if you have the financial means to do so, go to the grocery and buy the products that are needed so desperately to help these individuals. Combined Community Services, Salvation Army, church groups all have lists of products they so desperately need, so contact them and find out what to buy before that trip to the grocery store.
I would also like to challenge all the businesses in the community, along with their employees, to create donation boxes and give, give, give. Let's give, not because it's the holiday season, but because the people of our fantastic community need help now. We can and will take care of our community because we care.
Thank you in advance to everyone who will donate time, food, money for the people of this wonderful community. We have to take care of our own community, this will only make us stronger.
