MENTONE – Floyd A. Cox, 82, of rural Akron, passed at 7:42 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at his residence.

Floyd was born on Feb. 16, 1938, in Fulton County to the late Paul and Aletha May Clinker Cox. He was married on Nov. 27, 1957, in Plymouth, to Martha M. Ooley, who preceded him in death on March 27, 2020.

Floyd was a 1956 graduate of Akron High School. He raised his family by farming and always enjoyed working with International equipment. He owned one of Fulton County’s round barns and the only one that had operated as a dairy. His round barn was moved piece by piece and reconstructed in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., where it stands today. He was known for watching westerns on his big TV. Many people knew him and lovely called him “Big F.”

He is survived by daughters, Wanetta Estep, Mentone; and Kim Marshall, Mentone; sons, Devon and wife Karen Cox, Wakarusa; and Cliff and wife Nancy Cox, Rochester; grandchildren, Rachel and husband Justin Stambaugh, Kristie Estep, Anna Marshall, Scott and husband Shawn Smith, Tangula and husband Alan Crawford, Dusty and wife Lynndy Cox, Ashley and husband Rob Reddington, Shane and wife Lisa Cox, Ben and wife Brittany Coldiron, Cody Cox, Samantha and husband J.R. Carmickle, Cynthia and husband Joey Archambeault, and Mark Johnson; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters, Mary Etta Basham, Bremen; Helen Cox, Wabash; Pauline and husband Ron Meyer, North Manchester; Willowdean and husband James Zolman, Columbia City; Patsy and husband James Carpenter, Rochester; Jean Kerby, Greentown; and Jane and husband Wayne Spratt, Silver Lake.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha Cox; sons-in-law, Frank P. Estep and Mark A. Marshall; a great-grandson; and siblings, Earl Cox, Milton Cox, Dale Cox, Genivee Snavely and Gail Grable.

A viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 25 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. A graveside service will take place at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, with Scott Cox officiating.
