Flenar Seeks Etna Trustee Position

Flenar Seeks Etna Trustee PositionETNA GREEN – Angela Jo Flenar has lived the majority of her adult life in Etna Green and would like to see it continue to improve.

Those are a couple of the reasons she decided to file for the Etna Township trustee vacancy.

Gary Sponseller resigned from the trustee position, effective July 20, after almost 16 years. He and his wife plan to move out of the township. Sponseller was re-elected in November and his current term began Jan. 1.

Since fewer than two persons are eligible to participate in a precinct committeemen caucus to fill the vacancy, Kosciusko County Republican Party Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan will consult with Etna Township Republican Precinct Committeeman Steve Sechrist before announcing the appointment.

The Etna Township trustee vacancy will be filled and announced at 2 p.m. July 11 at the Kosciusko County Clerk’s Office, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw.

Flenar said she’s originally from Bourbon. She got married in 1993 and they moved to Etna Green, then back to Bourbon and she’s lived in Etna Green since her divorce. She also lived a short time in Winona Lake.

“I want to be able to help my community,” Flenar said of why she decided to seek the trustee’s office.

For 18 years she was a hairdresser, so she said she knows how to work with the public. She had a shop in Etna Green for eight years so she said she has some business background.

It was her sister who told her about the trustee position opening.

“My sister used to be the town clerk. We were walking and I said I’d apply if anything came open with the town. She called me later and said the trustee’s position was open,” Flenar said.

If appointed, this would be her first political position. She said her only goal would be to keep improving the township and keep it great like Sponseller did.

If anyone else wants to file for the seat, deadline to file with Ragan is 2 p.m. Monday.

Eligible applicants to replace Sponseller must be a resident of Etna Township, Kosciusko County; a Republican in good standing and must not have a felony in their history. Declarations of candidacy, and statements of economic interests, are available at county clerk’s office and must be notarized and filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the appointment.

Ragan’s contact information is 574-265-1430 and his email is mragan@sprintmail.com.

As of Tuesday, no other candidate had filed.
