Five Charges Filed Against Man After He Allegedly Tried To Break Into HomeA Warsaw man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to break into a home while he was intoxicated.
Darrin William Teeple, 40, of 223 W. Jefferson St., #7, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:55 a.m. Feb. 19 and charged with residential entry, a Level 6 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed April 16 in Kosciusko Circuit Court, on Feb. 19 Warsaw police were dispatched to a home in reference to a possible burglary in progress.
While traveling to the address, an officer observed a man in the middle of the road near South Washington and Jefferson streets, near the victim’s residence. The officer recognized the man as Teeple.
According to the affidavit, officers had to swerve to avoid striking Teeple and he was shouting, “Hit me!”
Police then exited their vehicle and handcuffed Teeple, detaining him for his own safety, according to court papers. As he was being escorted to the squad car, Teeple began resisting arrest but was eventually loaded into the back seat.
Officers reported smelling alcohol emanating from Teeple, and a breathalyzer came back at 0.18%, according to court papers.
Additional officers then spoke with the caller of the burglary call, who said a man had broken her window and attempted to enter her residence.
According to the affidavit, the caller told police the man began speaking to her and sounded intoxicated, so she left the bedroom and locked herself in another room.
Police realized the victim’s home is near where Teeple is known to live, and also located footprints in the snow outside the victim’s home with tread marks that matched Teeple’s shoes, according to the affidavit.
Police further observed the window was broken into and a razor blade was found that the caller said was not hers.
According to the affidavit, as Teeple was being booked into jail for residential entry charges, his body was searched and jail staff located a broken syringe that tested positive for methamphetamine.
