Find Solutions

Editor, Times-Union:
All this stuff about parties confuses me. What is a Democrat or Republican? Do they have an oath that they sign when they join? Do they have a creedo that they stick to? Do they only believe things that they hear from other members of their party? Do they wear certain kinds of clothes and only associate with members of their party?

I feel like we have become a society of name callers and titles. Some people call themselves Christians but I don’t see them acting the way Jesus taught us to act. These so-called Republicans do they not care about the underprivileged, the week and sick? I don’t think so!

I know a lot of people who call themselves Republicans and they would give you their last penny if you needed it. I also see so-called Republicans spending taxpayers’ money like the so called Democrats are accused of.

I also knew a lot of people in California who said they were Democrats and would look away when a needy person would come along. I think I must be a person and I don’t have any real party that I swear an oath to except Jesus and God.

As I wrote before in this section of the Times-Union, I watch C-SPAN everyday and listen to as many speeches from all sides that I can find the time for. I hear people saying the other side thinks this, or that ... and they would do this, or that.

Like the detective on the old “Dragnet” used to say, “Just the facts.” I wish I could go to the house of our national reps and say, “Stop telling others what they think or believe and tell me only what you believe.” There is so much wasted chatter in the house. We need to fix our holes in the boat we call the economy, and do it now.

The same applies to people I meet. They only tell me what’s wrong with the picture and never what they would propose to solve it. I am a firm believer if you don’t help in the repair, you are part of the problem.

Don’t stand over a wounded person. Get back and give them air. So starting now, let’s tone down the complaints and start to look for a solution. We will all be a lot happier if we stop complaing and start looking to the future with open hearts and minds.
