Fight At Syracuse Bar Ends In Battery Charges Against Kendallville ManA Kendallville man is facing battery charges after he allegedly knocked a man out at a Syracuse bar.

Seth David Stonebraker, 27, of Kendallville, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:08 p.m. Monday and is facing charges for battery causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony; battery, a Class A misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Dec. 21 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, police responded to a report of a fight in progress on July 26 at a Syracuse tavern.

Upon arrival, police were directed to a fight taking place in the parking lot and found a man laying on his back with a cut to the head.

The man said all he could remember was walking up to Stonebraker to apologize for an earlier scuffle and then being knocked unconscious after getting struck in the head.

The man told police the earlier scuffle involved pushing, “blocking a punch” and wrestling on the ground until they were separated, according to court papers.

When police approached Stonebraker in the parking lot, according to the affidavit, he told police, “that guy punched me first, man. I was defending my life.”

Witnesses told police Stonebraker knocked the victim out, according to court papers, and in a subsequent interaction between the victim and Stonebraker, Stonebraker allegedly apologized for the fight.

The victim had to get five staples in his head to close the wound.

Stonebraker’s bond was set at $10,250.
