Much is made of the fact that we are a Christian nation established on Christian beliefs and values. But many of the people who espouse such a theory are being critical of Barack Obama and his foreign policy. They think it wrong to sit down and negotiate with our enemies.
It seems to me I read somewhere in the Bible where Jesus sat with those who were considered to be the low life at that time. Also in Romans 12:20,21 it says, "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by doing so you will heap burning coals upon his head." Proverbs 25:22 adds, "and the Lord will reward you." That sounds like a foreign policy to me. And it sounds like if we were to follow it God would reward us. You talk about "shock and awe."
Can you imagine the reaction if we sat down to talk to someone and we said we care about your people and we want to feed them and we want to give them drink? Unfortunately, we haven't had anyone try it, yet. Maybe that's just one of those things we Christians like to hear on Sunday, but we don't really think it will work in the real world. It's in the Bible twice so God must think it would work. Why don't we?
