Feed My Starving Children will hold a kickoff event for the Warsaw Mobile Pack event from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Warsaw Community Public Library. Tuesday’s event is to get anyone from the community to learn about FMSC and how to get involved in the event, as well as learning about some possible fundraising campaigns. There is no registration to attend the informational meeting. “Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition. Hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. From this data, we estimate at least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. This is heartbreaking,” according to a statement on FMSC’s website. Attendees can expect to learn about the FMSC’s mission and how they can help, said Clarice Nist, member of the steering team/partnership team that will partner with Feed My Starving Children. This is the fifth time the event has been put on in Warsaw, as the Feed My Starving Children program is put on every other year in Warsaw, Nist said. The reason for this is every time the program is put on, the event tries to raise $250,000. The goal of the pack event in October is to pack 1 million mobilepacks of food, Nist said. The packs aren’t specifically for people within the community, but more for areas like Haiti, Southeast Asia and Africa, generally third-world countries that need food. However, packs were sent to Houston after a hurricane hit the area. There may be a secondary kickoff event in March. The actual pack event will be Oct. 14 to 16 at the Tiger Recreation and Activity Center at Warsaw Community High School, said Nist.
