The Magical Meadows invites veterans, first-responders and their families to attend “Warriors Weekend” on Saturday, May 30 for a day focused on fun, connection, relaxation, healing and community.
The completely free event will begin with a family picnic from 12 to 4 p.m. featuring horseback riding, a bounce house, games, food and opportunities for families to enjoy time together in a welcoming indoor/outdoor setting, according to a news release from The Magical Meadows.
Following the picnic, veterans and first-responders are invited to stay for a casual bonfire and/or overnight campout on the back side of the property. Guests planning to camp overnight are encouraged to bring their own tents and desired camping equipment.
“Warriors Weekend is one small way we want to give back not only to the veterans and first-responders we serve, but also to their families who sacrifice so much behind the scenes every single day,” said Michael Kuhn, executive director of The Magical Meadows. “We want this to be a place where families can relax, reconnect and experience the healing that can happen through nature, horses and community.”
The event also highlights the organization’s growing Warriors Mount Up program, which provides equine-assisted services and support opportunities for veterans and first-responders throughout the year. Through this program, participants have access to activities and experiences designed to promote mental wellness, connection and healing in a supportive environment, the release states.
As demand for these services continues to grow, The Magical Meadows is currently in the process of constructing a stand-alone 14,000-square-foot facility dedicated specifically to veterans and first-responders. The facility will be accessible to program participants 24/7 and will expand opportunities for support, programming and community connection year-round. The nonprofit organization is still seeking $300,000 in additional funding to complete this project, with plans of opening the facility this summer.
