Extension Homemakers Sponsor Open Classes At The Fair

Sue Martin, Home and Family Arts Building director, and Robin Shafer, the assistant director, held an informational meeting with the department superintendents of the open class exhibits at the Kosciusko County Community Fair, which is July 12 to 18.
The departments are: agricultural, which has 12 classes; crafts, with 10 classes; fine arts, with five classes; photography, with five classes; food preservation, with nine classes; food department, with 11 classes; garden flowers and plants, with nine classes; herb department, with five classes; needlework department, which has two sections - quilts with 11 classes and needlework department with eight classes; sewing department with 10 classes. Champions are chosen in each class and best of show is awarded in each department!
Anyone can enter. You do not need to live in Kosciusko County or be an Extension Homemaker. Every department has a youth (10 and under) class and a junior (ages 11-17) class. Members of the 4-H program are eligible to make entries. Open class fair books are available at the fair office, the Extension office and most of the area libraries.
Check-in day for entries is Saturday, July 11 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Use the east door of the HFA building to enter. Judging is Saturday, July 11 from 12:30 p.m. until finished. The building will be open Sunday, July 12 from 1 to 8 p.m.; July 13, 14, 16 and 17 from noon to 8 p.m. Senior Day is July 15 and the building will be opened from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Raffle winners will be announced shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, July 17; the winners will be called. Raffle items may be picked up Friday, July 17, immediately following the drawing or Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All entries will be released Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be additional release dates.
Stop in and visit them during the fair. This year their contest is “Fashion Through The Decades.” You will match the fashion to the decade it was popular and if you answer enough correctly you will win a coupon for free Leesburg Loins Club’s ice cream.
All entries will be released Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be no additional release dates.
