Everett “Mike” D. Schooley, 90, of Warsaw, died at 3:23 a.m. Jan. 9, 2012, in his residence.
He was born March 27, 1921, in Warsaw, to Reber E. and Goldie R. Sechrist Schooley. On Dec. 29, 1940, in Warsaw, he married Alice Kelly, who died Oct. 15, 2011.
A lifetime Warsaw resident, he entered the U.S. Navy on Oct. 12, 1944, in Indianapolis, as an apprentice Seaman. He was honorably discharged Dec. 13, 1944, in Lido Beach, Long Island, N.Y. He was a plumber with J Way Inc. for 15 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of First Brethren Church, Warsaw; American Legion Post 49; and Plumber’s and Pipefitters Union. He liked telling jokes and was fun to be around. It was a tradition for he and Alice to play dominoes Saturday afternoons following their weekly trip to Walmart. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers, playing Nines and trips to LaPorte to see family. He loved the grandchildren and enjoyed when friends and family came to visit. He really enjoyed getting the Legion open and the turkeys ready to go in the oven for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which he and his wife and Ray and Mary Compton was instrumental in starting more than 30 years ago.
Surviving are four daughters, Janice Cox, Tanya Heath, Cheryl Faris and Sally (and spouse Steve) Kuhn, all of Warsaw; nine grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Herschel Schooley, who died April 10, 2011; Robert Schooley, who died May 10, 1999; and Leo Schooley, who died March 6, 2007; and a sister, Reva Gariffi.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Jeff Pfeiffer of Warsaw Community Church and with military honors by member American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, both in Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
