Evelyn M. Jones
SYRACUSE – Evelyn M. Jones, 89, of Warsaw, died at 1:35 p.m. Apr. 14, 2011 at Mason Health Care in Warsaw.
She was born Jan. 5, 1922 in Syracuse, to Raymond and Elva Vorbis Bitner. On July 27, 1940, in Syracuse, she married Gaylord E. Jones, who died September, 1985.
She graduated from Syracuse High School in 1940, and was a lifetime resident of Syracuse. She formerly owned and operated Jones Interiors in Syracuse for 10 years and was co–owner with her husband of Monarch Industries in Syracuse, Goshen, and Elkhart.
She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Order of Eastern Star in Goshen, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 223 in Syracuse.
Surviving are two daughters, Letitia “Tish” Clevenger of Syracuse, and Cindy (and spouse Doug) Wells of Wixon, Mich,; a son Jay (and spouse Sheryl) Jones of Fort Meyers, Fla.; a sister, Phyllis (and spouse Clair) Archer of Cromwell; a brother, Gerald “Jake” (and spouse Pat) Bitner of Syracuse; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Swartz; twins Darrell and Carol Jones, and a sister, Fredona Custer–Ruch.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Dennis Judy officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Order of Eastern Star services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
