Eugene Nathaniel Hungerford, 84, of 1695 W. Highland Court, Warsaw, died at 3:37 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009, in his residence.

He was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Oxon Hill, Md., to Nathaniel Eugene and Pearl Virginia Utterback Hungerford. On Aug. 24, 1946, in Washington, D.C., he married Sophie Marie Bien, who survives.

Living in Kosciusko County for the past seven years, he was a technician at AT&T Communication, retiring in 1984. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a radio operator in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of ARRL Ham Radio Operators and was a 1942 high school graduate from Oxon Hill.

Also surviving are two daughters, Virginia (and spouse Terry) Witzky, Warsaw, and Hope Grant, Wheaton, Ill.; a son, Father Douglas E. Hungerford, Peru; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Father Douglas E. Hungerford officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
