Etna Green, Claypool Council Vacancies Filled By GOP ChairVacancies on the Claypool and Etna Green town boards were filled Thursday by Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan.
Eugene Warner was appointed to the Claypool board, while Cory Ellinger was named to the Etna Green board.
The vacancy on the Claypool board was created by the death of Republican Larry Neher. He died March 11.
Warner’s appointment was effective Wednesday, and he will complete Neher’s remaining term, which ends Dec. 31.
A news release from the Kosciusko County Republican Party states, “We congratulate Gene Warner on this appointment and wish him well in his new position and are confident that he will serve the citizens of Claypool with courtesy and professionalism.”
The Kosciusko County Republican Party also expressed sympathy to Neher’s family and gratitude to Neher for his many years of service to the Claypool community.
The Etna Green vacancy was created by the resignation of Etna Green Town Board member Todd Slabaugh, who resigned March 13.
Ellinger was one of three candidates, who also included Jason Hanes and Aaron Bakian. Ragan selected Ellinger with consultation by Etna Township Precinct Committeeman Steve Sechrist. Since there was only one precinct committee person – Sechrist – no caucus was held.
A press release from the Republican Party thanked the citizens of Etna Green who contacted Sechrist and Ragan for their preferences on the town board.
“Taking those discussions, and the following items into consideration, including consulting with Mr. Sechrist, reviewing the completed declaration of candidacy applications and the candidate’s historical voting records, Cory Ellinger has been appointed to complete the remaining term, effective April 3, 2019,” the release states.
Ellinger, Hanes and Bakian have filed for the board’s fall election, according to the release.
The release concludes by congratulating Ellinger on his appointment and wishing him well in his new position.
In addition, the Kosciusko County GOP thanked Slabaugh for his years of service.
