England & Polston

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I have two items that I feel compelled to write about.

First, the article in the paper regarding Zach England. I so agree with the other writers that the article in Nov. 25th's addition was in very poor taste and very inaccurate. I know Zach's grandparents. We attend church together.

By Sunday morning, the speculation of the police report had been proven wrong. If the writer of the article would have taken time to check with the hospital or even the family, he would have known the truth and not printed the false information.

I subscribe to the online addition of the paper, and as of yet I have not seen a correction of the article or an apology to the family. I hope that as editor of the paper you are big enough to admit when you are wrong and make a mistake right. As for Officer Terry Polston, this community and school system has lost a wonderful friend.

Officer Polston was my children's DARE officer and they both loved him. I also had the opportunity to work in a school where he was the DARE officer. I was the lunch lady. I really enjoyed my job and liked to connect with the kids.

I was always trying to find away to make lunch time fun. The Macarena was a popular dance, and so one day we did the Macarena. It was DARE day and Officer Polston came in to have lunch with the kids. Well, wouldn't you know it, Officer Polston jumped up and joined right in.

What a wonderful God-filled and fun legacy this gentle giant will leave.

God bless you, OP.
