NAPPANEE – Elmer J. Byler, 89, of 9545 W. Hepton Road, Nappanee, died at 12:55 p.m. July 13, 2012, at his residence, after suffering a stroke.
He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Nappanee, to John and Lovina Burkholder Byler. On March 27, 1947, he married Anna Chupp, who survives.
A lifetime area resident, he had worked as a carpenter and was a factory worker. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church.
Also surviving are four daughters: Marietta (and spouse Ray) Couch, Yacolt, Wash.; Ruth (and spouse Crist) Helmuth, Penrose, Colo.; Barbara (and spouse Paul) Troyer, Bourbon; and Nora (and spouse Duane) Miller, Nappanee; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Byler, Shipshewana. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters and three grandchildren.
Services were at 9:30 a.m. today at the Duane Miller’s residence, officiated by Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church. Burial was in Weldy Cemetery.
