Elkhart Sheriff Asking For Public’s Help To Solve Fatal Hit-And-RunELKHART COUNTY – Elkhart County Sheriff Jeff Siegel is asking for the public’s help in looking for a damaged pickup truck to help solve a fatal hit-and-run.

In the early evening on Feb. 26, Elkhart County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to CR 29, south of CR 50 near Syracuse, for reports of a man down.

Upon arrival, officers located 58-year-old Mark Warren dead on the side of the road, Siegel said in his latest call for the public’s help.

Preliminary investigation determined Warren was walking south on CR 29 and, at some point at an hour undetermined, was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Police located numerous vehicle parts at the scene, Siegel said, which deputies deduced belonged to a 2003 or 2004 Ford F-250 pickup truck.

“I am asking for the public’s help in the case because we need many eyes on the road looking for a vehicle similar to this,” Siegel said.

The truck will have damage to the right side, including to the right headlight and turn signal, and the vehicle may potentially be missing a center cap from one wheel on the right.

“Mark was a deaf man, and he had been deaf his whole life,” Siegel said. “Mark likely didn’t even hear the vehicle approaching him as he walked down County Road 29, so we are asking the general public to keep an eye out for this vehicle with this type of damage and local auto parts stores or junkyards or anyone who has any information to call our 24-hour dispatch line at 574-533-4151.”
