Editor, Times-Union: Did you ever notice how most of these politicians like governors and representatives turn up on the front page of the paper hours after they have left town? They always seem to meet with with their “Amen” corporate supporters or some other special interest group nearly in private. Lugar, the big pharma man, just whizzed through in his big limo or corporate jet.
I haven’t seen a major politician standing at a plant gate to talk to the workers since I managed David Dukes’ campaign for state senate back in ’78 in Louisiana. Louisiana’s Governor Edwards went from plant to plant at shift changes meeting the workers going and coming. I really respected that man. But those days are gone. I wouldn’t want to see these political mafia boys get their shoes dirty.
