AKRON - Edna Mae Shewman, 91, of 836 E. Walnut St., Akron, died at 11:15 a.m. May 6, 2007, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

She was born May 3, 1916, in Wabash County, to Ray and Hazel Miller Butterbaugh. On July 1, 1936, in North Manchester, she married Ralph E. Shewman, who died Jan. 11, 2000.

A homemaker, she also was co-owner and bookkeeper at South End Motors Ford dealership for 39 years, and co-owner of B&K Root Beer stand on the south end of Akron for more than 12 years. In her earlier years, she and her husband operated a farm where they milked cows. She was a 1935 Laketon High School graduate and a member of Akron Church of the Brethren for more than 60 years, where she was the secretary of the women's organization for many years.

Surviving are three sons, Con and Harold Shewman, both of Akron, and Royce Shewman, Muncie; a sister, Mrs. Eldon (Marianne) Fruitt, North Manchester; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Akron Church of the Brethren with Pastors David Hendry and Steve Fleck officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
