SYRACUSE – Edith E. Watkins, 88, of Syracuse, died at 2:42 p.m. June 18, 2011, in IU Health Goshen Hospital.
She was born March 11, 1923, in Saranac Lake, N.Y., to Hugo R. and Edith Mapes Franz. On July 17, 1953, in Syracuse, she married Eldon J. “Bud” Watkins, who died July 4, 2009.
She graduated from Saranac Lake (N.Y.) High School in 1940. She moved to Huntington from New York in the early 1950s and then to Syracuse in 1953. She was a linotype operator and type setter for several newspapers in Saranac Lake, Orchard Park and East Aurora, all in New York State. Upon moving to Huntington, she worked at the United Brethren Publishing House and assisted her husband on the family farm for many years. She was a member of North Webster Church of God and formerly attended Zion Chapel United Brethren Church, Syracuse, where she was secretary/treasurer of the administrative board and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a former member of the Goodwill Home Economics Club, Syracuse.
Surviving are a daughter, Robyn (and spouse Tony) Tilson, Syracuse; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at North Webster Church of God with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
