Echoes Of The Past Plow Acreage In Silver Lake With 20 TractorsSILVER LAKE - Mother Nature decided to cooperate so Plow Days could happen Saturday at Sands Farms in Silver Lake.
Vintage and antique tractors took to the field at 9 a.m. to begin plowing the first of two plots of ground to be worked before calling it a day. Farmall, Massey Ferguson, John Deere and Ford tractors all took their turns at making the nearly half-mile trek south before heading back north to complete the pass. The day saw a total of 20 different tractors and plows turn the soil.
Participants and spectators were treated to some rare and unusual tractors to admire while they plowed the nearly 80 acres, according to a news release from Echoes of the Past.
One such tractor had a custom-built 350 block vehicle engines powering the tractor. Piloted by father and son Scott and Kyle Van Diepenbos, the two built the tractor together.
Another father-and-son duo spending the morning plowing together was Scott Sands and his son. They were working with a Massey Ferguson 85 and, even though he is a fourth- generation farmer and young, he mastered the tractor by the end of the day.
One of the gentlemen who had been plowing for the majority of the day summed it up by stating, “It’s God, me, the dirt, the tractor and the plow.”
