Editor, Times-Union: In response to Mr. Wagner’s letter of Dec. 15: Contrary to your beliefs, the earth was not created for human existence. Seventy-one percent of the earth’s surface is oceans. Maybe 1 percent of the earth’s water is drinkable. That leaves 29 percent for land, then we have lakes, rivers and numerous mountain ranges. Thirty-three percent of what is left is desert, which consist of hot and cold desert. A cold desert is Arctic and Antarctic, known as polar deserts. Only 20 percent of deserts are covered in sand. Our only natural source of light can cause cancer. Then we have wild fires caused by lightning, tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes and volcanoes. I remind you of all the wild life on land and in the oceans that will kill, eat and poison humans. I could go on. Finally, if you believe the earth is less than 7,000 years old, like the Bible says, I strongly believe you should question your beliefs. Robert Pickens Warsaw, via email
