SYRACUSE - Earl Lavon Roberts, 66, of North Webster, died at 9:40 p.m. May 16, 2010, at Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Warsaw, to Bernard J. and Avelda V. White Roberts. On Aug. 5, 1972, in Packerton, he married Phyllis Ann Haney, who survives.

He was a lifetime Syracuse and North Webster area resident. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1962, Purdue University, West Lafayette, in 1966, and received a master's degree from Purdue University.

He was a retired agriculture teacher, having taught at Fairfield, Caston, Whitko and Warsaw Community high schools, where he set up and started the ag program. He formerly worked at Pacemaker Buildings, North Webster.

He attended Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church and formerly attended the Church of the Brethren and Church of God, both in North Webster. He was a life member of the Lion's Club, North Webster, where he was one of eight Indiana members to serve as district governor. He received the Melvin F. Jones Lion's Club Award and was formerly the chairman of the Mermaid Festival, North Webster.

Also surviving are a daughter, Wende Roberts, North Webster; and two brothers, Ron Roberts and Jon (and spouse Betty Jo) Roberts, all of Syracuse.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Dennis Judy officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
