Earl A. Ellenwood, 84, of Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, died at 9:15 p.m. March 14, 2011, in Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

He was born July 24, 1926, in Franklin County, Kan., to Clarence Burr and Maggie Olga Miller Ellenwood. On Aug. 10, 1947, he married Virginia "Betty" Elizabeth Smith, who survives in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

A lifetime area resident, he was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, Gideons International and the American Foundry Society. He was a dairy and duck farmer in the Warsaw area, and he was owner and operator of Akron Foundry Inc., Akron, since 1964. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Military Police.

Also surviving are a daughter, Londa (and spouse Larry) Downs, Warsaw; two sons, Gary (and spouse Karen) Ellenwood and David (and spouse Carol) Ellenwood, all of Akron; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Cleora Cauffman and Mary Patterson, both of Warsaw, and Ida Cripe,North Manchester. He was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw. A private graveside service will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
