GOSHEN - Douglas A. Brookins, 56, of 16986 River Ridge Road, Tippecanoe, died at 10:17 a.m. Jan. 21, 2010, in Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka, where he had been admitted on Jan. 13, 2010, ill since Sept. 22, 2009.

He was born Feb. 1, 1953, in Goshen, to Wilbur and Fern Yoder Brookins. On June 22, 1975, he married Barbra Phillips, and were divorced.

He lived in Tippecanoe since 2004, coming from New Paris. He had been in sales for ADM Alliance Nutrition since 2004, currently owned Progressive Pork Concepts and was involved with the family farm. He was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, currently serving on the New Paris Telephone Board. He was an advocate for the Pork Industry, a 1971 graduate of Fairfield High School and a 1975 graduate of Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., where he played basketball.

Surviving are a special friend, Lorre Osborn, Plymouth; a son, Gavin (and spouse Natalie) Brookins, Cutler; two brothers, Ronald (and spouse Barbara) Brookins, New Paris, and Richard (and spouse Julia) Brookins, Goshen; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Dwayne Runkle officiating. Burial will be in Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home , Goshen, and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.
